Stumper

Kevin started swimming lessons on Monday. He wanted me to swim with him, but I explained that the lifeguards, like cousin Trevor, would be teaching him and they would make sure he was safe in the water.
The question of the day:

"Mommy, a lifeguard guards life. What is life?"

Kevin's trip to the dentist...

Kevin's trip to the dentist went so well that I was inspired to brag about it at a forum I frequent. Not that I don't brag about him other times, but this was special:)

Warning- bragging ahead!
Kevin had his first dental appointment today. I was a little worried because he's not much of a fan of holding still. I practiced with him at home by having him lay in the recliner while I counted his teeth and he likes brushing, but I was still a bit concerned. When we got there, he played in the waiting room until the assistant came for him, then he walked back without hesitating. He climbed right up in the chair, laid back, and let her put on the little bib. Whatever the dentist told him to do, he did immediately. He didn't wiggle or act shy or get nervous at all. I was amazed. I told Bob later that we could have been the "Going to the Dentist" segment on Sesame Street.
While Kevin was picking out his treat, the dentist asked me if Kevin was always this well-behaved. I told him that we had practiced a little and he thought that was great. He then told me that Kevin was one of the best first exams he's ever done and he was really impressed with how pleasant and cooperative Kevin was. He far exceeded my expectations and I'm still all warm and fuzzy about how well he did:)

I have eaters!

Delaney and Claire like food! Specifically, they seem to like food that comes off a plate and they can put in their mouths with their hands rather than the pureed stuff out of a jar. This is a huge change from what we experienced with Kevin, who'd gag at a bit of hamburger and will still try to eat butter, and butter only, for dinner. So far, they've eaten waffles, french toast, mac and cheese, scrambled eggs with cheese, green beans, peaches, bananas, hamburger, chicken (both in very nutritious nuggets and sweet and sour form), and rice. The rice part is funny because Delaney adamantly refused to eat the stage 3 green beans, which contained rice, when she would inhale the stage 2 version without rice. Silly baby!

Hopefully they keep this up!

Updates

I can't believe the girls are almost a year old...and that they've survived with no major injuries! Claire has decided that Kevin's little table is an excellent climbing spot. She does a great job climbing up, but getting down is mostly left to gravity. Delaney has started to like the push walker, but, again, gravity can be both friend and foe. They are still both small, but both have their two bottom teeth and are showing a lot of interest in getting food in their mouths. Waffles, mac and cheese, and chicken nuggets are current favorites, but they still like their fruits and veggies too. In other news, they both had a visit with Dr. Suh, the pediatric ophthalmologist, who said that they were both far-sighted. No glasses yet, but we'll be going back in 3 months for a recheck.

Kevin is still working on potty training. We've told him that it's his job and he'll need to be able to do it by the time he starts preschool at the end of August. He'll pee on the potty and has occasionally pooped there too, but doesn't quite seem to have the "feel" yet. He's had a great week with a trip to Sioux Falls to see his cousins, a parade and fireworks on the 4th, and another parade, and maybe fireworks, today. He loves parades, especially the candy, and even the loud fireworks don't seem to faze him at all.

It's been super hot here the last few days and we've been contemplating setting up the wading pool. All 3 of the kids really like water. We had a nice vacation to Minneapolis and Alexandria, MN in June and, as long as the water isn't too cold, the little fish are all for a dip:) We'll be heading over to Wisconsin in a few weeks to visit Angie & Eric and family and hope to find a spot around Madison for a couple days of family fun. We'll see how a vacation without the good help of Grandma Helen goes!
